As someone in his mid-forties, I’m not in the intended audience for this book. Like the author, I went to medical school and work in biomedical informatics. I love figuring out how to help scientists and researchers help advance their ideas to better help patients. Having met and worked with Kevin Johnson, I can say that he’s the perfect person to write this book. He’s super smart but still approachable. He has a consistently great attitude. Not only is he an elite scientist, he’s also a role model to the next generation, whether coworkers like me or aspiring scientists still in school.
This book is for curious people with heart. It’s for people who are fascinated by computers but want to use them to help people. It’s for people who like nurturing life. Any smart kids interested in figuring out a professional pathway to serve people while doing really cool stuff can learn from Kevin’s example. Even college students trying to find a career can find themselves in this book. (Hey, it’s an easier read than a microbiology or organic chemistry textbook!) If you want to work hard and contribute in unique ways with your career, learning from Kevin’s journey can provide no better start.
