Professional Biography

I have educational and professional experiences within the realms of healthcare, computation, leadership, and writing. Since 2013, I have focused my energies at the intersection of healthcare, research, and computation; I code in PHP/MySQL/JavaScript for REDCap applications. I desire to spend the rest of my career somewhere near the intersection of healthcare, medical research, and technology. Outside of work, I volunteer, read widely, write extensively, garden, and cook with my family.

Experience

  • Application Developer, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, 2014-present
    • Currently piloting software (Flight Tracker for Scholars, using JavaScript/ HTML5/ PHP/ MySQL/ REDCap) that tracks and analyzes the career trajectories of academic scholars. Software is currently in use at a handful of institutions nationally. I serve as the lead developer for the software and coordinate with our team a consortium dedicated towards academic career development with software.
    • Sole developer for Grant Tracker, a REDCap application in PHP that traces the money flow through grants in the medical center’s departments. Automatically aggregates data from many data sources and combines in nicely designed formats.
    • Developed REDCap Mobile App using PhoneGap (JavaScript/HTML5/CSS); this is an intricate mobile app for Android and iOS that integrates with the leading data collection software for medical research using API calls. It allows for offline collection of data. It is changing the way medical research is conducted, especially in global health.
    • Developed plugins for PhoneGap using Java and Objective-C.
  • Software Systems Engineer, Emdeon, 2012-2013
    • Met production needs of servers processing medical billing claims through installations, management of tickets, alert management, and monitoring.
    • Change Management person for team.
    • Wrote many Perl scripts that analyzed performance and the flow of production.

    • Interacted with large MSSQL and Oracle databases at the user level and at the script level.

    • Developed a web application that used a web-based interface that simulated the process of getting to a diagnosis from a patient encounter. Written for medical students.

    • Developed the CAEFF Integrated Model user interface featuring an interactive visualized design that allowed for easy design of polymer processing simulations.

    • Co-designed the web-based Polymer Database containing polymer information for polymer processing simulations.

  • June Ramsey Class Leader, First Presbyterian Church, 2013-present
    • Sunday School class usually invites Vanderbilt University Divinity School faculty to lecture.
    • I serve as a fill-in speaker in case of absence.
    • I also serve as discussion moderator on some Sundays.
    • Class is mainly filled by accomplished professionals in retirement or in later stages of their careers.
  • Currently write book reviews (2018-present).

    • Books of many genres are explored, ranging from literature in Computer Science to poetry, from historical fiction to religious literature. Mainly non-fiction.

  • Wrote book on introduction to theology. Never published.
